Scale Saga Continues

Since my home scale woes earlier this year, I pretty much stopped weighing myself at home. In fact, I finally got rid of that body fat scale!  I think I might have heard my husband cheering from the other room when he realized it was gone. Instead, whenever I want to make a good effort at watching my weight, I would start a food diary for  several days. The food tracking really helps me stay on track!

Last week, I noticed a brand new Tanita Body Composition Analyzer at my work. One of my work colleagues, already familiar with the analyzer as a trainer,  asked me if I wanted to give it a try. I admit, there was  a brief moment of hesitation, but I agreed.
This fancy looking contraption connects to the step on scale.

He entered demographics such as gender, height, etc. He said it is very important to put down whether the person being weighed is athletic, or not. Each model has its own definition of what qualifies as athletic. This machine's manual considers anyone who works out 10 hours or  more each week on a regular basis- not counting exercise newbies- as athletic. He also says clothes weight actually makes a difference. He often sees clothes weighing between 1-3 lbs. He arbitrarily put in 1 lb for my clothes weight.

My feet on the scale. Yes- the polish is there to camouflage some black toenails!

Results?

  • No, I'm not going to give actual numbers here, but my weight is 2 lbs less than it was when I stopped weighing myself last Spring. Not a huge difference, but at least it's in the right direction towards my "racing weight." Ha!
  • My BMI (Body Mass Index) remains within normal range.
  • My Body Fat Percentage is no longer in the "higher than normal" range. My body fat percentage is now in "normal range".  Hooray!
  • This scale also gives a reading called a Physique Rating. It read "thin and muscular."

Thin and muscular. I think I like this scale.

I would BUY a scale that told me I was thin and muscular. Does it talk and tell you that? That would be my new ringtone...

Gotta love thin and muscular! I think I'd pay serious $$ for a scale that told me that.

I am convinced my scale is broken...it can't be me....

Looks like great results all around!

I am not on speaking terms with my home scale currently...

I always take the body fat readings with a grain of salt. That type of measurement just isn't overly accurate in most cases. But whether it goes up or down is at least a good indicator of how you're doing over a period of time.

Hmmm, I'm always intrigued by such devices!

I haven't weighed myself in awhile, but my clothes still tell me that I haven't lost my preggo weight. I don't need the scale to tell me the same thing!

Gotta love that Physique reading - thin and muscular is exactly what we're all striving for.

So interesting. I love all the data and numbers! I'm not too good at "dealing" with what I see on my scale so I don't weigh myself too often but I would if I had your scale!
