Sleep Is Important

Last week was supposed to be a high mileage week. The kind where most of the miles were planned during the weekend. Why is the word "supposed" in italics? It's because I learned that...

High Mileage Runs + Tween Sleepover  = Do NOT Mix
substitute "tween sleepover" with "sleep deprivation"

Goals:
1. Back-to-back long runs on Saturday and Sunday.
2. Host a Hello Kitty, rainbows and glitter slumber party.

Strategy:
Saturday morning is free.
There is plenty of time to run after my daughter's sleepover ends at 9am.

Reality:
Saturday: Run done as planned.  Check!
Sunday:  Found myself still up at 1am  to the sound of persistent giggles.
By 3am Sunday: I was pretty certain the run was not happening Sunday morning.
By 2pm Sunday: while attached to the sofa, exhausted, I knew the run was not going to happen that day. Monday: Still recovering. Cleaning popcorn from between the sofa cushions.
Tuesday: Jumped back to where I was supposed to be on the plan.

Most importantly, the sleepover was a Hello Kitty, rainbows and glitter success!

I remember being a part of those kinds of slumber parties. I was always the instigator that kept some part of the party crew up till dawn.

That's the perfect example of life getting in the way of a good plan. It happens.

Good things like this can get in the way of training any time. If it was successful, even better.

I don't function well on limited/no sleep AT ALL! Good call taking the rest.
